| Welcome to The Jones/Miller Family Online Home!
This was a fairly unique family. Neither my Jones grandpa nor my Miller grandma had much to do with their families. It's like they got married & forgot where they came from. They say it takes a village to raise a kid but in this case two people single-handedly raised eight & buried one. So their kids & especially their grandkids have little clue where they came from. If only they'd known how difficult it would make it for the genealogist in the family. If not for my asking granny questions before she passed & obits we wouldn't have what we do now.
So to the Jones' & the Millers...I need your help. To the kids who have any memories at all...I need your help. If you have pics, articles, writings, obits, etc. but no scanner...I do. Let's get it all online for everybody to have versus one or two. This is dedicated to our future generations. We can't leave them a million but at least we can leave them their history. If you're a Jones or Miller or related please register (for free) & help. ;) |

Welcome/Rules May 04, 2008, 03:38:04 pm by Dawn

Welcome to our message board/discussion forum! What's a discussion forum? Seriously I didn't know until 2004. It's an online place where groups of people get together & discuss special interests. In this case the group's family & the special interest is our history. We can post new topics/polls or reply to those already posted.
Here you'll see our name at the top then a box telling you to register or login. I've registered a few...I'd do more if I knew the proper email addresses to use. But registering is easy & free. Then you must log-in to see/use most of this site.
After that box we have news which any admin here is able to edit. You do so under admin/main/edit forum news.
Then we have a few menu buttons. Home shows the front page. Forum's where all our posts are at. Help gives you something like a manual for this place.
Search is a very important feature...especially when boards get full of people/posts. You can search to make sure nothing's been posted before you post a question somebody else has already asked.
You're only going to see admin if you're an admin. But all members see profile...& there's where you edit yours. To view other people's profiles click on their name...either within a post or under staff list or members. Personal profiles & all lists are blocked from public view...you must be a registered member/logged in to view them.
Arcade, gallery, links, & events calendar are all extra features. Events posted in the calendar can be linked to posts made under "member news/announcements" & vise versa.
Members here can send private messages to each other. Simply click on someone's name/view their profile. There'll be a link "send personal message". Then you check for your own PM's under My Messages.
Rules
1. Only a Jones/Miller or someone we married are welcome here.
2. I'm trying to keep this place organized from the word go. If you've ever been to a big board you'll know why. I've got categories...like site news/announcements versus member news/announcements...etc. Please stick to the proper category. If you don't know where something goes post it under "general forum". And please note if things are posted under the wrong category they'll be moved to the right category or general forum by admins/mods.
3. Please do search before posting the same topic/question.
4. If someone's posted a topic/question please stick to their topic/question when replying. Please don't "hijack" their thread with info unrelated to their original topic/question. If you have your own info/question...create a new topic.
5. Please clean up after yourself. If you've posted under the wrong category & can move your post to the right category please do so. Same goes for pics/links/etc.
6. Please don't post your address/phone number/etc. anywhere on this site. Also don't post your email on this site...only under your profile which is blocked from public view. The reason being "spam-bots" look for email addresses posted on websites. If you must post your email do it like this: yourname at yourdomainname dot com or post an image of your email address. Wink
7. Don't spam this site or any of it's members via PM/email or IM. If you join & don't tell us who you are/how we're related/what you want you'll be deleted/banned.

About The Ads May 04, 2008, 03:32:15 pm by Dawn
|
There's nothing I can do about them...unless we want to pay to be here. Free sites must deal with ads. And these are Google ads. They're supposed to match the theme of your site. Then these should be about family trees/what-not but they're not always.
Hopefully they won't get totally bad. Just know that I don't get to pick what gets displayed here.

What Does A Global Moderator Do? May 04, 2008, 03:30:24 pm by Dawn
|
You keep track of all the member's/their posts. All their posts including pics/links/comments/etc.
You make sure people are posting in the right category & if not move it to the right category or general forum.
You can modify, remove, merge, & split topics.
Curse words are blocked here as this is a PG-13 board so we shouldn't have to worry about modify...unless it's our own post/we want to fix it. And remove is for general public forums where members might be mean/hateful/cuss each other out. But I can't imagine that here on our family board.
Split is for those topics that other's hijack & take over with info or questions unrelated to the original topic/question. And merge is for those double topics/questions.
A global moderator can cover any part of the board where-as a moderator can only cover the board/child boards they're assigned to.
